New England Home Magazine Picks KM DESIGNS PILLOWS

 

Kyle Hoepner, Editor-in-Chief of New England Home magazine, highlighted KM DESIGNS and artist Katherine MacColl as his recent favorite find for the Perspectives portion of the July/Aug 2010 issue - see page 142.

"It fascinated me at once. Tailored yet voluptuous. Vibrant yet subdued. Perched insouciantly on a chair of impeccably modern street cred in the chaste surroundings of Boston's D SCALE furniture boutique. My heart leapt, my fingers itched to caress that taut, textured skin. Was I wrong to feel all this...just for a pillow? Fiber artist Katherine MacColl probably wouldn't think so. After all, she gave up a career in mental health to consummate, full-time, her lifelong love affair with pillows. Working in her Conway, Massachusetts, studio, MacColl hand-dyes tightly woven cotton fabrics to achieve deep and not-too-uniform hues, cuts them into strips of varying widths, then folds, presses and weaves them together into subtle grids. An exacting art that resultsin a sort of Albers-like (Anni or Josef, take your pick) effect of harmonized color blocks, in miniature, on your sofa or chair. Seductive."
