Production of each piece is entirely hands-on from drafting the templates to securing the last few details. Trained in the true master's tradition - craftsmen begin by cutting the leather by hand to ensure each hide is flawless and every piece is utilized. Forms are hand-cut from foam and cushion covers are sewn by a small team of seamstresses - once all the components are created they are secured and inspected. This attention to every small detail during production emphasizes the hand-crafted Made in Italy quality that Polaris has built their 40+ year reputation upon. Since the early 1960's the district of Forli has been considered one of the most important areas in Italy for the production of quality upholstery.The company started by the Billi brothers in 1972 named "3B" soon became one of the leading manufacturers for such products; beginning as a small artisan unit the firm soon acquired all the necessary expertise and experience of being a specialist in their field and continues as such these days after over 40 years of tradition. In the early '80's the company changed its title to the trademark "Polaris" which rapidly asserted itself in export markets as well as Italy. The firm quickly expanded in exports in particular with the cooperation of Roche Bobois. Polaris has developed its strong general level of competence through the creation of a highly qualified workforce with vast experience in the construction of leather upholstery. The establishment is supported by a team of experts engaged to obtain its objectives and able to solve with rapidity and knowledge of all the different world markets which the company supplies today.

"Perspectives on Design" Book Launch at D Scale in Boston's South End

   


On April 28, D SCALE Modern Furnishings hosted the launch for Perspectives on Design, Panache’s new book showcasing the creative minds behind some of New England’s most exquisite estates.  The event was well attended, filling the lavishly decorated studio with the premier design professionals in New England.    

Among those in attendance were John Meyer AIA and Laura Brooks Meyer IIDA from Meyer and Meyer Architecture and Interiors, Marc Kaplan, the president of Sanford Custom Builders, Laureen Edelson from Panache Partners, Janet Raslavicus, the founder of Solstice Design, and Andrea Liera and Andrea Rasi from Polaris, D SCALE’s Italian leather furnishings manufacturer.  D SCALE was alive with the most innovative minds of East Coast design.

D SCALE Modern Furnishings is featured in a new book Perspectives on Design.  Published by Panache, the book will be featured in Barnes & Noble stores throughout New England in the “New Hardcover Arrivals” section.  Perspectives on Design is a showcase of the region’s most distinctive architects, builders, landscape architects, interior designers, artisans, craftsmen, and furnishing designers.  The D SCALE collection showcased in this new summer “must-have” highlights the beauty of Dennis Duffy’s work, revealing the perfect balance of “scale, proportion, comfort, and glamour” in modern furnishings.  For anyone looking to spice up their home or explore the work of New England’s top designers, delve between the glossy covers of Perspectives on Design for great insight into this regions classic beauty.

Stunning Modern Lighting

In doing some research earlier today I came across this stunning pendant on the Hudson Furniture website. The "Atlantis" pendant designed by Barlas Baylar composed of nickel chain with gloss nickel plated finishes and details the draping effect reminds me of a dramatic high-couture gown. I want!

When customers are interested in a leather sofa here at D SCALE - they usually inquire about maintenance and care for the leather. Leather is definitely a more forgiving and resilient material in comparison to a lot of fabrics so I usually offer addressing a spill or stain immediately by patting it with warm water and a clean cloth. I confess that before this past weekend I had absolutely no experience in cleaning up a spill or stain on leather - so my advice was based on what my mom always told me or reading the little booklet that comes with the leather sofas. However, having had the unfortunate experience of spilling a glass of red wine on a white leather sofa recently I can now say with confidence - address the spill immediately - use a soft clean cloth with a warm water - which is not going to be enough - so start with a little mild, moisturizing soap like Dove hand soap and pat and rub the stain. If your like me and still panicking because it's not working add a little more soap and rub harder - eventually - thankfully - it will come out.
